3D Modelling for Film: Video

And here's the short video with the image projected onto the geometry in 3ds Max to make for quick and easy composition.

More 3D!

Today I got to finish off the texturing and composition of my scene for '3D Modelling for Film' this is probably the most fun I've had on a project so far, the Panzer III is very close. I've just got to add a small animation to the scene and I can render it out and call it finished.

The Day of Their Wrath

We also had a group project this year where we were put into teams and tasked with creating a level from a small brief that we had been given. Our game title was 'The Day of Their Wrath' and this is a video that me and another member of the group, Alex, worked on as part of our end of semester teaser trailer..

3D For Film Progress

I've been working a lot more on my scene for '3D for Film' and I'm having a tonne of fun with it.. this is definitely the direction I want to take my art, really pleased with how this is progressing so far!

More Character Work

I finished up my head for the 3D Facial Modelling module today, I got to use ZBrush for the first time which was really fun.. definitely looking forward to using that more for future projects! I'm not completely happy with how the piece turned out but we have a 3D Body Modelling module next year so I'm going to try and improve over Christmas ready for that.

Environment Work

I've been working on some more of my 3D Modelling for Film module and I'm really enjoying it! I much prefer working on Environments than Characters so I've put a lot more time into this piece so far..

3D Facial Modelling

This week I started on another module as that hand-in is coming up quite soon. It's not something I planned on working on as I would like to aim towards Prop/Environment work rather than Character related art but this was enjoyable none-the-less.

3D Modelling for Film

One of the optional modules this year is '3D Modelling for Film'. The aim is to create a detailed scene within 3ds Max and then project an image made in photoshop onto the geometry, thus saving a lot of time and not having to unwrap every object.

Here's a couple of progress shots of what I've got so far:

Panzer III - Unreal Engine

I baked the high poly tank down to create a normal map for my game-ready version however I had a lot of problems with the normal map, especially around the tracks and wheels. I tried to remedy this by painting in extra detail in the diffuse but it doesn't quite make up for it.

Here's the tank in my Osaka UE Single Player map:

Panzer III

I made some really good progress with the Panzer III high polygon model and I'm really proud with how it's turned out, it's definitely been the most fun thing to model so far.. will be doing more of this!

Games Engines and Physics

Another module this year was 'Games Engines and Physics. The module involved creating a playable level taking advantage of kismet and player interaction. I think I went a bit beyond the brief and made quite a large puzzle based single player level.

Here are a few images from different stages throughout the level:

Modelling for Games 1B

A new year and even more to get on with! For the first 3D Modelling module we have to choose a world war tank and then take it through the industry pipeline, creating a low and high polygon model and presenting the final asset in the Unreal Engine with Diffuse, Normal and Specular Maps..

I've chosen to model the Panzer III
